The water carrier #196263467
Description
The water carrier, guerrabas, guerrab or ge`rrabes of Morocco is a very old trade typically Moroccan. It was once one of the pillars of the souks oriental markets by bringing refreshing and thirst-quenching water for the thirst of passers-by and merchants for a few dirhams. Guerrab` comes from its `outre` guerba in Arabic, a goatskin container decorated with ancient coins.Dressed in a traditional red costume that can be seen from afar, made up of copper or tin cups and a multicoloured hat tarazza, he rings his bell to warn of his presence. These porters exist only for folklore as a tourist attraction particularly in the souks of Marrakech and in the Jemaa el-Fna square. They are part of the traditional cultural heritage and symbols of Morocco, much appreciated by Moroccans and tourists.
