Vittoriano (Italian Il Vittoriano) #200168322
Description
Vittoriano (Italian Il Vittoriano) is a monument in honor of the first king of unified Italy, Victor Emmanuel II. Located in Piazza Venezia in Rome, on the slope of the Capitoline Hill. The project was designed by Giuseppe Sacconi in an eclectic neoclassical style with elements of the second Empire style. This is how the revival of the national style of Roman architecture was understood at that time. Construction lasted from 1885 to 1935. Part of the monument is a twelve-meter bronze equestrian statue of the king. Under it is the tomb of the Unknown Soldier, the so-called Altar of the Fatherland. Also in Vittoriano there are two museums the Risorgimento and the banners of the navy.
