Grouse Winter Bed #200724381
Description
A grouse winter bed for the night. During the winter months an indent in the snow like this is a location where a grouse bedded down for the night. The grouse pushed snow aside and the body heat from the animal helped to melt and form the indent. The bird will lay here for the night and as snow falls it will be covered in a covering of snow. When morning comes, the bird will stand up, shake off the snow and move on its way. In the background you can see the trail the bird made in the snow as it walked away from its night of rest. This small indents are what hunter and photographers will look for when searching out these birds. A fresh bedding like this is a clear sign in the early morning hours that a grouse is near by, since these animals do not travel far. While a photo like this does not seem very exciting, it is a sign the a grouse you are looking for is nearby.
