An African Grey Parrot Psittacus erithacus captured at the Bird Gardens, Monte Casino, Four Ways, Johannesburg, South Africa.They are also known as Congo Grey Parrots or Congo African Grey Parrots, native to equatorial Africa including Congo, , Angola, Cameroon,Gabon, Ivory Coast, Ghana,Kenya and Ghana. It is an Old World Parrot in the family Psittacidae. Tipically weighs 400gm .88lb approximate length 33cm 13in with a wingspan of 46-52cm 18-20in Predominantly grey, black billed parrot. Darker grey over head than body and wings. Head and body have slight white edges. Tail feathers are red.The iris of the young bird are dark grey to black, and those of the adult birds yellow. In captivity they reach 40-60 years of age and in the wild approximately 23years.In the wild they are mostly ground feeders, mostly frugivorous,eating friut nuts and seeds. They are monogamous. Each pair needs it`s own tree to nest. They lay 3-5 eggs. Incubation30 dayswhile being fed by the mate. Both parents take care of the chicks.Young leave the nest at 12weeks.
