Vintage diagram showing the Principle of the Equatorial Coude 1900s #202005530
Description
The Harmsworth Encyclopaedia 1930s / 1940s - The large equatorial coudé telescope is an original instrument conceived by Maurice Loewy; it was in constant use from 1891 to 1939. In 1874, Loewy presented to the Council of the Observatory a model of an equatorial instrument with two mirrors; its purpose was to reduce observing fatigue by enabling the observer to remain immobile. A telescope is an instrument designed for the observation of remote objects. Telescopes work by employing one or more curved optical elements - lenses or mirrors - to gather light or other electromagnetic radiation and bring that light or radiation to a focus.
