Marble statue holding a face mask #202011880
Description
One of a number of female marble statues in the grounds of Brodsworth Hall near Doncaster in South Yorkshire. It is on a square pedestal moulded plinth. The woman is depicted wearing a loosely draped cloth covering and holding a face mask next to her own. The gardens were landscaped in the 1860s by the owner Charles Sabine Augustus Thellusson. In 1867 a number of sculptures were commissioned to be made in Italy by Chevalier G M Casentini to fit in with the Italianate style of the country house.
