1943 steel wheat Lincoln penny one-cent coin made during World War 2 II due to lack of copper #204432234
Description

Here is the reverse side of a steel penny. Pennies were struck in steel because of World War II wartime shortages of copper. All of the larger mints in Philadelphia, Denver, and San Francisco made these in 1943. It was composed of low-grade steel coated with zinc, instead of copper and bronze. It has been referred to as `the wartime cent, the steel war penny, and steelie.`
