Description

The Jizera Mountains Isergebirge in German, Gory Izerskie in Polish are a geomorphological unit and the northernmost mountain range in the Czech Republic. The mountain range was named after the river Jizera, which springs on the slopes of Smrk, which is the highest mountain in the Czech part of the mountain range. Previously, it was considered the western peak of the Giant Mountains. About a third of the mountains are located in Poland, where also lies Wysoka Kopa 1126 m, the highest peak of the entire Jizera Mountains.Around the mountains are the towns of Liberec, Frýdlant, Raspenava, Nové Město pod Smrkem, Swieradow-Zdroj, Szklarska Poreba, Desna, Tanvald and Jablonec nad Nisou. In terms of territorial division, the Czech part of the mountains is located in the districts of Liberec, Jablonec nad Nisou and Semily in the Liberec region.
