Description
Harmsworth`s Universal Encyclopaedia 1920s - Social History. Gunpowder: Vertical section of edge-runner mill for the incorporation of gunpowder. Illustration showing rollers mounted on axles, pan in which the gunpowder is ground and mixed, vertical shaft revolved by bevel gearing and cross frame. Preparing the ingredients and mixing them in the right quantities before ââ¬Ëincorporatingââ¬â¢ them in a stamping mill, or later an edge runner mill. Further stages of the process included pressing, corning, granulating, glazing and drying. Gunpowder gradually fell out of use after newer explosives were developed in the 19th century.
