Sunlight glistening on the waters of Prince William Sound in Alaska, USA #205631407
Description
Captain Cook first entered the Sound in 1778 and named it Sandwich Sound. It was later renamed Prince William Sound in honor of Prince William Henry, third son of King George III and is located on the east side of the Kenai Peninsula on the Gulf of Alaska. Prince William Sound is ringed by the steep and glaciated Chugach Mountains to the north and east and is the best place in Alaska to see spectacular coastal scenery and tidewater glaciers calving into the ocean, while on a boat cruise starting from the small town of Whittier.
