Roger Berlind At 65th Tony Awards Meet The Nominees In Manhattan Editorial Photo

Prodigiously successful Broadway producer Roger Berlind is seen in this monochrome portrait attending the 65th Tony Awards Meet the Nominees press junket in Manhattan on May 4, 2011. Berlind was among the groups of producers of 3 successful plays in 2011. `Jerusalem` and `War Horse` were winners, and `The Book of Mormon` was a winner 9 times over. In his decades of backing productions he had an astonishing 25 wins. Berlind was an active theater participant of theatrical productions at Princeton and had dreams of being a songwriter. But he did very well as a partner in a Wall street brokerage firm. His life changed radically when his wife and 3 of his children were killed in a plane crash at Kennedy Airport. Making money lost its luster as he battled depression while he tried to raise his 2 year-old son, who like his father, was not on the doomed flight. He found salvation in the theater, as backer of productions, including many musicals he selectively and shrewdly scouted. Berlind died from cardiac arrest at his Manhattan home on December 18, 2020.
