Mitla is an archaeological site in Oaxaca in southern Mexico near the town of San Pablo Villa de Mitla. It is located in the valley of Tlacolula not far from Oaxaca de Juárez. In the time of the Zapotec the city was called Lyobaa. The Mixtecs conquered the city around AD 100 and called it Mitla, Place of the Dead.
