The eagle and shield symbolize freedom and readiness to defend it. It is part of the bronze statue of an American Eagle that is part of the Eagle Plaza by John D. Murchison Scouting Center. The Center is the headquarters building for Circle 10 Council of the Boy Scouts of the USA in Dallas, Texas. Founded in 1913 and based in Dallas, approximately 50,000 youth and 15,000 adults participate in Scouting through the council each year.
