Description
The tower forms one whole with the Westerkerk which was designed in Renaissance style between 1620 and 1631 by the Amsterdam master builder Hendrick Cornelisz de Keyser (1565-1621). The church which was inaugurated on June 8 1631 has a length of 73 meters and a width of 29 meters. The tower was completed in 1638. It is the highest church tower in Amsterdam (approx. 87 meters).The tower is skewed. Measured at the height of the crown the tower is 88 cm off plumb. The deviation was also not considered to be a cause for concern in the last restoration.
