The hotel is located right on the beach and has its own helicopter port.Restaurant Latour is located on the first floor of the hotel, which has been awarded a Michelin star continuously since 2005. Since 2010 the hotel has a beach pavilion that is open all year round.Huis ter Duin has always focused on wealthy tourists. The royal families of the Netherlands and Belgium, for example, stayed there regularly. Other guests included Princess Gracia of Monaco, writer Thomas Mann and movie stars Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton. During the Second World War, the hotel was requisitioned by the Germans to house army officers. That information was later used in the film Soldaat van Oranje, which was partly shot around the hotel.During the storm of January 25, 1990, a large part of the hotel was destroyed by a major fire, killing three firefighters. Huis ter Duin was subsequently rebuilt and expanded. It is now a five-star hotel with 254 rooms, 20 suites, four penthouses, 19 conference rooms, a bar, the Van Diepeningen Lounge and three restaurants. Today, the hotel is mainly known to the general public because of the Dutch football team, which often stays there. In July 2014, the film Blood, sweat & tears about the eventful life of the Netherlands' greatest folk singer, André Hazes, was recorded in the hotel and soap operas and other programs are still regularly recorded.
