Title
A bunch of nipplefruit on stalks for sale at a market stall for Chinese New Year celebrations #209372302
Description
While all parts of the nipplefruit plant Solanum mammosum are poisonous, it is highly sought after as an auspicious decorative plant to usher in the Chinese New Year, notably the Year of the Ox. The secret lies in the fruit which is shaped like a cow`s udder, with 5 protusions or fingers, which in Chinese sounds like Ji Ã¥ÂÂ, or `sons`. In Chinese, the name of the plant is written as äºâ代åÂÅå â wu dai tong tang, literally `Five Generations Living Harmoniously Under One Roof`, hence symbolizing one having five generations of olds and youngs in the family all together and in good health.
