Title
The 2 pier heads at the entrance of the Scheveningen harbor. #209384320
Description
A jetty as a pier of a port can run from a few tens of meters to several kilometers into the sea. They extend from land into the sea and are built to allow ships to sail in and out of port safely and quietly. They often stand on two sides of the harbor mouth. They can consist of a heavy stone dam or a wooden construction. This wooden construction is called a picket fence. During storms, the breakwaters break the high waves and the length of the piers can be chosen such that the harbor entrance is screened off against waves and at the same time to minimize the accumulation of dredge.Harbor lights are usually placed at the end of a pier, in the form of light curbs and sometimes a lighthouse.
