Theatre Baths, Aphrodisias #209494237
Description
Theatre Baths. As excavated, its principal components include from west to east: a square caldarium hot room with a domed roof; a large vaulted hall, probably the frigidarium cold room; and an all-purpose basilical hall. The architectural decoration of the basilical hall includes two richly carved piers, featuring putti hunting animals in a luxuriant and brilliantly carved acanthus scroll. These relief piers are typical of the best marble craftsmanship of the mid-second century AD.
