The Shih Tzu is a breed of dog originally from Tibet . They were bred and groomed by Asians to resemble living rugs, according to Chinese culture , being highly prized as guard dogs. Like the Lhasa Apso , it is a breed closely linked to Buddhist practice , possibly coming from a cross between the Lhasa Apso and the Pekingese . According to a survey by the UK Kennel Club Dog Breeders Association , their life expectancy is 14 to 15 years.
