Description
Ornate carved archway forms a buttress at the top exterior observation deck of the famous dome of the Duomo di Firenze. Designed by Filippo Brunelleschi, the dome was completed during the Renaissance in 1436. The observation deck can be reached by a narrow, steep stairway that climbs between the interior and exterior walls of the dome to arrive on a deck, called the lantern, at the very top with a view of Florence below. The walkway is bordered by eight carved stone archways.
