Indra Jatra is one of the main festivals of Nepal celebrated mostly by newar communities. The eight day long festival starts with the erection of a wooden pole called 'Indradhwojnthan' infront of the Hanuman Dhoka, Basantapur..During Indra Jatra festival, people enjoy various traditional dances like Lakhe dance, Mahakali dance etc. and witness the chariot of Goddess Kumari, Lord Ganesh and Lord Bhairav being pulled through the older parts of the Kathmandu city. Indra, the god of good rain and harvest , is worshipped in this festival.
