It was designed for the Kaufmann family of Pittsburgh remember the department store? as a weekend getaway house. The Kaufmanns used the house as an escape to the Pennsylvania mountains to fish, hike and go horseback riding. Knowing their love of the outdoors, Wright incorporated the waterfall into the property to make nature a part of their everyday life. When exploring the grounds, it was hard not to picture yourself living there, surrounded with the fresh mountain air and surrounded with nature. As Mrs. Kaufmann once said, ââ¬ÅThere must be something about close contact with nature which helps to heal everything.
