Description
Pictured is a Photograph by David Franzen in 2002 of `Night in Kilauea Crater` painted by Charles Furneaux in 1885. Furneaux, a Boston native, taught art there for many years. In 1880 he moved to Hawaii and began painting volcanoes. He found friendship and patronage in King Kalakaua and the rest of the royal family. In 1895, the king bestowed upon him the order of Chevalier of Kapiolani for advancing Hawaiian art. The framed photograph is displayed on a wall inside the Volcano House in the Hawaii Volcanoes National Park.
