Description
Pictured is a closeup view of a bloom of Crinum asiaticum commonly known as poison bulb on the Island of Maui in the State of Hawaii. It is also commonly known as giant crinum lily, grand crinum lily, and spider lily. All parts of the plant are poisonous if ingested, containing a variety of alkaloids such as lycorine and tazettine. Ingestion can cause vomiting, abdominal pain, severe diarrhea after constipation, irregular breathing, rapid pulse, rising body temperature, nervous system paralysis and death.
