Detail of German pointer #217654879
Description
The German Wirehaired Pointer evolved from old water dogs, mostly from England, used to catch beavers, otters and to hunt fish. Other coarse-haired dog breeds are also derived from them, such as the Czech Fousek. It evolved in the 19th century, mainly by crossing the best German coarse-haired dogs, such as the poodle pointer and the corthal griffon. They were to be used mainly as hunting dogs specializing in feather hunting and construction. At present, they are still used for these purposes, but we can also find them as partners.
