Blue and grey rubber zodiac rafts are on the banks of the American River, near Coloma, California, where gold was discovered in 1848 which led to the Gold Rush. River rafters and other outdoor enthusiasts pursue activities on the river, which is also a tourist destination as a historical landmark, in an area known as the Gold or Mother Lode Country, in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada mountains.
