Description
Bodhgaya and the MahaBodhi Temple complex, where Gautama Buddha is said to have attained Enlightenment, is located about 110 kilometres from Patna, in the state of Bihar in India. Built in the 2nd century CE, the 4.8-hectare MahaBodhi Temple complex was recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage site in 2002. The Cloister Walk or Cankamana is where the Buddha practiced walking meditation on the 3rd week following his enlightenment and is one of the 7 sacred sites in the temple complex.
