Ruins of a granary on the Narew river, a strategic historic project #219547627
Description

The magnificent building was built in the Neo-Renaissance style according to the design of the architect Jan Jakub Gay, and the investor was the Bank of Poland. Apart from storage tasks, the granary could also fulfill a defensive function, because on the first floor it was equipped with openings adapted to artillery fire, as well as fire from firearms. It served as a grain warehouse until 1853, when it was bought by the then military authorities from the Bank of Poland and intended for the warehouse of the Modlin fortress. In the interwar period, the granary was the seat of the Modlin Naval Port Command, and then the Central and Main Naval Depot. Among other things, sapper equipment was stored there, and it performed this function until the outbreak of World War II.
