Wild vicuna grazing in Peru. #220630762
Description
Two wild vicuna graze on golden grass in the highlands of Peru. Vicuna are the smallest of the South American camelids and one of the two wild species of camelids. Prior to the Spanish Conquest, vicunas were protected animals, with only Incan Royalty being allowed to hunt or wear the Vicuna garments. After the conquest they were hunted to near extinction, but recent conservation efforts have allowed the populations to grow.
