Description
The village of Poienile Izei, located in the historical Maramures, is documented for the first time in 1430. The old Greek Catholic wooden church from Poienile Izei was built in 1632 by the village community and is dedicated to Saint Parascheva. It was included in the UNESCO patrimony in 1999. Ÿ; the tower is located in the west-side of the church to which is integrated; the towers have a gazebo with several supporting pillars, which acts as bell pavilion and in historical times it was the place for observation at large. The majestic height and structure of the tower are the expression of the undeniable virtuosity of Romanian craftsmen, of the very special talent and an untouched daring on wooden building on the European continent.
