Description

This Hindu Temple, commonly referred to as the Pillaiyarpatti Temple, is dedicated to the Deity, Lord Ganesha, or Lord of Wisdom. The stone idol is carved out from a rock in a cave, on the hillock of Pillaiyarpatti. Temple was built during the reign of the Pandya kings and dates to between 1091 and 1238 AD, according to stone inscriptions found. In the cave temple, there are also rock cut images of Lord Shiva and other Gods. The age of the cave temple is 2500 years or more. There are 14 stone Sculptures in the cave dating from 500 BC to 1284 ADPhoto shows the Temple complex, with the reflection of the Temple Towers and adjacent trees in the still waters of the tank.
