The Imperial Palace of Manchukuo, or the False Emperor's Palace, as it is called in Chinese, was built in the early 20th century. It was used as the seat of government for Manchukuo, a puppet state created by the Japanese who occupied northeastern China at the time. They installed the last emperor of the QIng dynasty as head of state, to give Manchukuo some international legitimacy. In truth, it was completely under the control of the Japanese, until it was liberated by Soviet forces in 1945, and returned to Chinese control.
