A picture of the outer southern side of the Castle of Ljubljana, Slovenia capital, with its medieval bay windows and some remains of ancient stairs, and a few visitors at its foot. The Ljubljana Castle is a complex standing on Castle Hill above downtown Ljubljana, and it is a key landmark of the city. Originally was a medieval fortress from the 11th-12th centuries with few building units, a defense structure, and later there was added the majority of the buildings between 15th and 17th centuries. It has had various purposes until today. The castle can be accessed by road, by several trails through the forest that surrounds it, or by the funicular. It is an attractive tourist spot and a major cultural venue, hosting a large number of cultural events, weddings, concerts, theater functions, exhibitions, congresses and protocol receptions.
