Description
Galcescu Lake is a glacial lake located in a glacial erosion basin in the Galcescu Basin in the Parang Mountains. The lake is located at an altitude of 1925 m, has an area of 31,260 square meters, with a maximum depth of 9.3 m and is the largest glacial lake in the Parang massif. The lake is declared a monument of nature established since 1932. From here springs the river Lotru. The Galcescu Basin covers an area of 200 hectares and is a natural resevation area of geomorphological, faunal, floristic and landscape interest, due to the relief forms with glacial lakes, glacial circuses, cliffs, valleys, the rich vegetation specific to mountain areas and species diversity of mammals and birds.
