Description
Pictured is a mural on the outside of the Kahn Saloon building which now houses the Kahn Hotel in Jefferson, Texas. It features Marion Try Slaughter, better known by his stage name Vernon Dalhart, an American country music singer and songwriter. His recording of the classic ballad `Wreck of the Old 97` was the first country song to sell one million copies. He was inducted in the Hall of Fame in 1981. he was born in Jefferson April 6th, 1883 and died September 14th, 1948. He took his stage name from two towns, Vernon and Dalhart in Texas, between which he punched cattle as a teenager in the 1890s.
