The image :IMG_370 Captured in the Kruger National Park, South Africa. on 22.05.13 `The Tawny Eagle, Aguila rapax has an iris that is yellowish freckled with brown; bill borwn; black tip; cere and legs yellow.Large and pale with an oval nostril and a short rather rounded tail. Younger birds paler, almost white below; above without dark centres to feathers. These birds fade to very pale blond, sometimes with darker head. Next stage is darker, mottled and streaked on sides of chest. This phase moults to adult. Gape ends at middle of eye. Distributed from Karoo northwards throughout Africa except heavy forested regions. South-east Europe, Arabia and India. Now rare in Cape Province north of Orange River. Common in dry bushveld thorn country, almost entirely absent from moist woodlands. Sluggish bird, killing it`s own prey, but not above resorting to carrion with vultures. Spends a great deal of time sitting on dead trees, mostly round hunting camps. At other times, quite bold, dashing even robbing other birds, or soars high overhead. Feed mainly on game birds,hares, dassies,small antelope, ground squirrel, mongoose, snakes,chameleons and small birds. Also carrion. The voice is a usual not of a high rasping ` kah ` or ` kow, kow ` Nests at very top of trees, constructing a large platform of sticks with some straw and leaves for the centre.
