Description
An old lady from the Indonesian part of Timor island, seats in front of her wooden hut and her granddaughter is combing her hair with a comb. It is the middle of a windy hot day. The Timor island has been divided in two parts during colonial times. West Timor was under a control of Dutch until 1949 when it became another Indonesian province. East Timor was a Portuguese colony until 1975, when it was anexed by Indonesia. The people of East Timor resisted Indonesian forces in a long-lasting guerrilla campaign. The conflict ended in 2002 by the establishment of an independence of East Timor, known now as Timor-Leste.
