Allyson Felix, 2012 Olympic Gold Medalist in track and field, arrives on the red carpet at the Waldorf Astoria in New York City for the Buoniconti Fund`s 27th Annual Great Sports Legends Dinner to Benefit the Miami Project to Cure Paralysis; Sept. 24, 2012. Felix competed in her fifth Olympic games, the 2020 Olympiad in Tokyo, Japan in July, 2021. Prior to these games she had amassed an astounding Olympic haul of 6 gold and 3 silver medals and in the World Championships she has earned 16 medals, including 11 Golds. She is a versatile sprinter, having competed in 100 meters, 200 meters 400 meters, 4 x 100 meters relay and 4 x 400 meters relay. A USC graduate, she has won a number of Jesse Owens Track Awards and an ESPY for Best Female Track Athlete. On August 7, 2021, at the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo Japan, at age 35, she won her career 7th Olympic gold medal as part of the women's 4 x 400 relay race team. That gave her a career total of 11 Olympic medals, the most ever by any United States Olympic track and field athlete, breaking the record of 10 held by Carl Lewis. A few days earlier she had tied Lewis by earning bronze in the 4 x 100 meters relay. Finland's Paavo Nurmi collected 12 medals between 1920 and 1928.
