Built in the early nineteenth century, albeit in an archaic style, Normanton church was due to be demolished when the Rutland Water reservoir was created in the late twentieth century, but public protests resulted in the lower half of the church (which was below the high water level of the new reservoir) being filled with rubble and concrete, leaving the upper half intact, yet the partly submerged
