Description
In 1794, Metropolitan StratimiroviÃâ¡ founded the seminary, as the second oldest in the world after Kiev. A little later, in 1798, he founded the boarding school Blagodjejanije, where poor theologians and high school students lived and ate. During 1805, until the end of 1806, Vuk StefanoviÃâ¡ KaradÃ
¾iÃâ¡ taught to read Serbian and German in Karlovac, he finished Slavic grammar and the whole arithmetic and catechism. During this period, Sima MilutinoviÃâ¡ Sarajlija and Dimitrija DavidoviÃâ¡, sons of Aleksa and Jakov NenadoviÃâ¡, attended high school. At the beginning of the 19th century, a small scientific society, better known as the Karlovac Circle, opened in Karlovac, which gathered many intelligent people, and which dealt with issues of language and history. Advancing more and more, the people of Karlovac got the First Pharmacy in 1807, and two years later the Drawing School, which was founded by the Metropolitan, trying to continue the continuity of artistic development and nurturing of Orthodox iconography. By the end of 1811, the construction of the Magistrate`s building was completed. Metropolitan StratimiroviÃâ¡, who marked an epoch in Karlovac with his engagement, died on September 23, 1836 and was buried in the Cathedral.
