Description
Giant kelp, Macrocystis pryifera, is found all along costal regions. Although many people mistakenly think it is a sea plant, it is a unique classification called Heteroknot. The term Heteroknot meaning flagellates, `with whip-like appendages`. The giant kelp can grow as much as two feet 60cm per day. They need to grow in rock parts of the ocean, as they attach to a rock, for stability.
