Description
Yamdrok Lake also known as Yamdrok Yumtso or Yamzho Yumco is a freshwater lake in Tibet and is considered sacred by the Tibetan people. Over 72km long, the lake is surrounded by many snow-capped mountains and is fed by numerous small streams. The surrounding area is closely associated with Padmasambhava, who brought Buddhism to Tibet in 8th century AD. It is also home to Samding Monastery which sits on a peninsula jutting into the lake.
