Makye Ame: the yellow landmark of Lhasa #228358233
Description

Makye Ame is a restaurant with Nepalese, Indian and Tibetan flavors. The head office is located at the southeast corner of Barkhor Street, Lhasa, Tibet Autonomous Region, with branches in Beijing and Kunming. In Tibetan, Maji Ami means `unmarried mother`. [There is a legend that Maggie Ami comes from Tsangyang Gyatso`s love poems, and is said to be the name of Tsangyang Gyatso`s lover. Legend has it that the place where Tsangyang Gyatso and Maggie Ami met back then was the khaki-colored building where Maggie Ami is located at the southeast corner of Barkhor Street in Lhasa today. In Tibet, the bright yellow color of this small building can only be used for the outer walls of temples or the residences of eminent monks, and even the noble houses on Barkhor Street dare not paint yellow, so this small building is very eye-catching. Norbulingka`s Barkhor Street mural proves that the small building had been yellow for 300 years by the early 2000s.Maggie Ami in Lhasa has many message books on the coffee table in the restaurant with a strong Tibetan style. Tourists from all over the world have written their comments on them. The restaurant has compiled and published these messages. The platform on the top of Maggie Ami`s building overlooks Barkhor Street, Barkhor East Street and Barkhor South Street.
