The Madeiran chaffinch Fringilla coelebs madeirensis; “Tentilhao” in Portuguese is a subspecies of the European or common chaffinch endemic to Madeira island, where it is found in the island’s laurisilva forest. The world’s largest remnant area of this type of evergreen temperate forest is located in this island; many species of animals and plants are exclusively found in this unique habitat.
