North European Wolves at the Highland Wildlife Park, Highlands, Scotland, UK #229389117
Description
The Eurasian wolf Canis lupus lupus, also known as the common wolf or Middle Russian forest wolf, is a subspecies of grey wolf native to Europe and the forest and steppe zones of the former Soviet Union. It was once widespread throughout Eurasia prior to the Middle Ages. Aside from an extensive paleontological record. Wolves normally live in a group called a pack made up of 8-12 members, headed by an alpha male and alpha female. The grey wolf is one of the worldââ¬â¢s best known and well-researched animals. There are probably more books written about it than any other wildlife species. The grey wolf was once one of the worldââ¬â¢s most widely distributed mammals, living throughout the northern hemisphere north of 15ðN latitude in North America and 12ðN in India. However, deliberate human persecution has reduced the speciesââ¬â¢ range to about one third, due to livestock predation and fear over attacks on humans. The species is now extinct in much of Western Europe, in Mexico and much of the USA.
