Description
Original location of San Francisco`s first newspaper, The California Star. That building was somehow destroyed prior to 1901.With the first pay phone in Chinatown being installed in 1891, the first telephone exchange was set up in 1894, a little further down on Washington St. This building dates to 1909. With changing technology, the Telephone Exchange closed in 1960.The building was then bought by The Bank of Canton, and then the East West Bank during their expansion to San Francisco in 1991.Seen here in September, 2021.
