620 Jackson Street, The Municipal Crib. #229876176
Description
Many early American cities and towns, big and small, had their share of brothels and music halls, and usually with the protection of the police and politicians.San Francisco was no different in this regard. And 620 Jackson Street was typical in this regard, except the mayor at the time, Eugene Schmitz, and some of his close associates, would meet here all the time. The rooms where the woman would bring a customer was exceptionally small, almost `like a crib`, which is why one of the local newspaper editorials dubbed this particular place `The Municipal Crib`.It was a building rebuilt after the 1906 earthquake, although it no longer exists, just an address over an empty alley, as seen in September 2021.
