Description

The Common Rustgill appears in tufts on stumps and logs in coniferous woodland and very occasionally also on hardwoods. This species is becoming increasingly common because it grows on woodchip mulch that is now so popular with gardeners as a means of controlling weeds in shrubberies. Common name: common rustgill. Extract from Wikipedia article: Gymnopilus sapineus, commonly known as scaly rustgill, is a small and widely distributed mushroom that grows in dense clusters on dead conifer wood. It has a rusty orange spore print and a bitter taste.
