During the San Francisco Gold Rush of 1849, people, mainly men, flocked to the city from all around the world to work in the gold fields and get rich. This included Croatian and Slovenian among them. As these various people got settled into their new home city, they started setting up churches where services would be held in their native tongue.Church of the Nativity was dedicated in 1904.They also added Polish immigrants as well.Although that church was lost in the 1904 earthquake, this new one was built on the same spot in 1912, while the basement of another church was used during the interim. When all religious churches started loosing member, many churches started closing. In 1994, Church of the Nativity was one of San Francisco`s closed churches. Parishioners held weekly, outdoor services, until they were finally allowed to reopen, 2 1/2 years later.As seen September 2021.
