Title
Beech Fagus sylvatica forest in Orbaitzeta, northern Navarre, Pyrenees #231688965
Description
Although relatively small in extension, the region of Navarre in the northeastern Iberian Peninsula harbors a rich natural heritage, owing to its geographical location between the southwestern end of the Pyrenees range near the Atlantic and the Ebro river basin. The region straddles the Eurosiberian and Mediterranean phytogeographical regions, and its forests are representative of both. Excellent examples of beech forests can be found in the wetter, milder-climate northwestern valleys, such as this one near Orbaitzeta, in the Pyrenees foothills, not far from the famous Irati forest.
